The Rochdale Canal stretches from Manchester to Sowerby Bridge.
Leave the station and, turning right, walk up Smithybridge Road.
You will soon reach the canal bridge and towpath. Go left to Littleborough; right to Rochdale.
The walk back to Manchester goes through Rochdale and passes Castleton and Mills Hill stations.
A longer walk up Smithybridge Road will take you to Hollingworth Lake Country Park.
